the kilometer show (day five)

Next stop, Houston!

El Paso to Houston is roughly 11 hours. Driving distances like these make me think how people journeyed in the days of no automobiles or trains. What if that person didn’t have access to a horse or camel? How do they prepare to walk thousands of miles? Do they pack food? Are they building settlements along the way and entrusting their children with finishing the pilgrimage if they can’t? I love living in a modern world. Instead of planning an odyssey that could span a few generations, I just fill my car’s tank. I don’t have to slay deer or a hippopotamus to eat, I just stop for fast food. Speaking of stopping for food, 1 hour outside of El Paso, on Interstate 10-E, there is a truck stop that’s also a restaurant. The burrito I purchased there was great. It has a really old school vibe to it. There’s an old western feel that exudes very well.

I went through so many versions of my psyche on that road. I was upset. I was happy. I was sleepy. I was sad. I thought about the past. I thought about the future. By the time I got to Houston I was a totally different person. I booked the hotel about 20 minutes from the downtown area. I thought I would’ve explored it, but I met some very cool individuals at a bar that was next door. We all kicked it and they invited me to a place called Whiskey River North. It’s a country music bar, complete with a mechanical bull and patio area. The vibes were so good. We met even more people and partied til the place closed. Houston needs a sequel.

I’m doing my best to be in this moment. I can’t help but to feel so behind though. I have a lot of catching up to do in my work. I haven’t produced a track in months. I haven’t tried to write song either. I practice singing sometimes, besides that, I’m so idle. It’s an interesting headspace to have when you’re migrating across the southern portion of the United States. The next time I plan a Kilometer Show, I’ll have to integrate some sort of production schedule. Would it be cool to have a soundtrack for these types of adventures? I think so.
